What drives cybersecurity demand in Saint Lucia

Tourism is the largest part of the Saint Lucian economy. Resorts, villas, dive operators, tour companies and restaurants all take bookings and card payments online, and many rely on a handful of shared email accounts and a booking platform managed by one or two people. That makes them attractive to fraudsters who send fake reservation changes, bogus supplier invoices and lookalike login pages. A single compromised mailbox during peak season can mean lost deposits and unhappy guests.

Financial services carry their own expectations. As a member of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union, Saint Lucia's commercial banks are supervised by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) under the Banking Act, 2015. Non-bank financial institutions, including credit unions, insurance companies and international business entities, fall under the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA). Credit unions in particular hold years of member records and are under pressure to show careful handling of data and technology risk.

National cyber work and the gap for smaller firms

At the national level, Saint Lucia is building up its Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CIRT) through the World Bank-funded Caribbean Digital Transformation Project, which also supports Dominica, Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The island also has a Computer Misuse Act on its books. These efforts focus on government systems and national coordination. Private businesses still need their own training, testing and written procedures, and most do not have a dedicated security person to provide them. A remote partner that can train staff each quarter, scan systems on a schedule and write the missing policies fills that gap without adding a full-time salary.

Phishing simulations and security awareness training in Saint Lucia

Your staff are the first people a scammer tries to fool. In Saint Lucia that might be a reservations agent who receives a convincing message from a 'travel agency', a credit union teller asked to verify a member's details by email, or a manager who gets an urgent payment request that appears to come from the owner. Our security awareness training teaches people to spot these attempts and report them quickly.

Training is delivered as live online sessions each quarter, so teams in Castries, Gros Islet and Soufrière can attend without leaving work. We keep the material practical and local, with examples drawn from hospitality, member-based finance and small business. Between sessions we run phishing simulations: safe test emails that measure how many people click and how many report. Over time the reports show whether your team is improving and where to focus next. For a quick practice round, staff can try Spot the Phish.

  • Live online sessions on a quarterly schedule
  • Phishing tests themed around bookings, payments and member services
  • Department-level results without public shaming
  • Recordings available for staff on rotating shifts
  • Guidance on setting up a simple reporting process

Vulnerability scanning services in Saint Lucia

Small and mid-sized Saint Lucian organizations often have systems that were set up once and rarely revisited: a booking website on an outdated plugin, a router with default settings, a file server still exposed for remote staff. Vulnerability scanning finds these issues before someone else does.

We carry out external scans over the internet against your websites, public IP addresses and cloud services. Internal scans work through a small device or software agent that you plug into your network, which we then operate remotely from Jamaica. Before anything starts, we agree the scope in writing and you sign an authorization, so it is always clear what is being tested and when. You receive a ranked list of findings, with the most serious items first and a plain description of how to fix each one. If you need a deeper manual test, we can talk through penetration testing. Our wider cybersecurity services are described on the main service page.

  • Internet-facing scans of sites, IPs and cloud accounts
  • Internal scanning through a plug-in device or agent
  • Signed authorization and written scope every time
  • Ranked findings your IT provider can act on

Cybersecurity gap analysis and security policies for Saint Lucia

If you are not sure how secure your organization really is, a cybersecurity gap analysis gives you an honest answer. We measure your current practices against the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001 or the CIS Controls, depending on your goals. The whole process runs remotely through video interviews with key people and a review of your documents, settings and existing procedures.

You receive a report that explains each gap in everyday language and a roadmap that puts the most important work first. For FSRA-supervised credit unions and insurers, the roadmap is a practical way to show the board that technology risk is being managed. We also write the policies that most Saint Lucian businesses are missing, such as acceptable use, password, incident response and data protection policies, drafted to match your actual operations. Our free incident response plan template shows the level of detail we work to. When you are ready, ask for a gap analysis.

  • Choice of NIST CSF, ISO 27001 or CIS Controls as the benchmark
  • Remote interviews and document review
  • Board-ready report with a prioritized roadmap
  • Written policies tailored to your organization

AI consulting and staff AI training in Saint Lucia

AI tools can help a small Saint Lucian team do more: drafting guest replies, translating messages for visitors, summarizing long documents or preparing first drafts of reports. They can also leak confidential information if staff paste member records or contracts into the wrong tool. Our AI solutions help you get the benefits while keeping control of your information.

We begin with an AI readiness assessment to understand your workflows, data and risk appetite. We then run practical online AI training for staff and managers, and write an AI usage policy that states which tools are approved, what information must never be entered and who is responsible for oversight. You can start from our free AI usage policy template. When there is a clear use case, we move to AI implementation, such as an enquiry assistant for a hotel website or a tool that sorts and summarizes incoming documents for a finance team.

  • Readiness assessment of workflows, data and risks
  • Hands-on AI workshops delivered online
  • AI usage policy with clear rules on confidential data
  • AI assistants and automations built for real tasks

Custom software development for Saint Lucia organizations

Syxel Core builds software for businesses that need something off-the-shelf products do not provide. For Saint Lucia clients, that might be a member portal for a credit union, a staff scheduling app for a resort, an online booking and payment flow for a tour operator or an automation that moves data between accounting and inventory systems without retyping. See our software development page for the full range of work.

We build web applications, iOS and Android apps and business automations, and we manage projects remotely with regular video demos so you can test progress as it happens. Each stage is agreed before work begins, which keeps scope and expectations clear. After launch we can provide support, updates and training for new staff. If you have an idea but have not written it down yet, our free software project brief template walks you through the users, features and goals we need to understand before we can estimate the work.

  • Web apps, portals and dashboards
  • Mobile apps for iOS and Android
  • Automation that connects your existing systems
  • Remote project management with regular demos

Data protection law in Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia's main privacy law is the Data Protection Act, No. 11 of 2011, amended in 2015. The Act was not brought into force all at once. According to the Revised Laws of Saint Lucia, a commencement order (Statutory Instrument 4 of 2023) brought parts of it into force on 31 January 2023. Those parts include the obligations on data controllers, covering the data protection principles, consent, sensitive personal data, accuracy, security and the destruction of personal data that is no longer needed.

Other parts of the Act, including those that set up the Data Protection Commissioner, registration of data controllers and some individual rights, were not listed in that order. Because the position may change with later commencement orders, check the current status with a Saint Lucian attorney before relying on any particular section.

Whatever the legal timetable, the security duties already apply. We help with the technical and organizational side, such as staff training, access controls, scanning and an incident response plan. We do not provide legal advice.

Working with Saint Lucia clients from Jamaica

Our only office is in Spanish Town, Jamaica, and we serve Saint Lucia remotely. Saint Lucia uses Atlantic Standard Time (UTC-4) and does not change its clocks, while Jamaica stays on UTC-5 all year. That means Saint Lucia is one hour ahead of Jamaica in every season, so a 2pm session in Castries starts at 1pm our time.

Kickoff meetings, interviews, training and report reviews all happen over video. Scanning devices can be shipped or set up by your IT contact, and documents move through secure file links. If your project calls for on-site work, such as a staff workshop or a physical review, we can arrange a visit to Saint Lucia.

  • Saint Lucia is one hour ahead of Jamaica year-round
  • All core work delivered over video and secure links
  • Visits to Saint Lucia by arrangement

Questions from Saint Lucia businesses

Can a Jamaican company really support our Saint Lucia business remotely?

Yes. Training, phishing simulations, scanning, gap analysis, AI work and software projects are all designed to be delivered online. We are based in Spanish Town, Jamaica, and can arrange to come to Saint Lucia when a task needs someone on site.

Is the Saint Lucia Data Protection Act in force?

Partly. The Data Protection Act, No. 11 of 2011, was brought into force in stages, with key duties on data controllers commencing on 31 January 2023 under S.I. 4 of 2023. Other parts were not included in that order, so confirm the current position with a local attorney.

What time zone do you schedule sessions in?

We schedule in Saint Lucia time. Saint Lucia is always one hour ahead of Jamaica because neither country observes daylight saving time. Sessions are booked inside your normal business hours.

How do phishing simulations work for a hotel or credit union team?

We agree the themes and timing with management, then send safe test emails that look like real booking, payment or member-service messages. Staff who click see a short lesson on what they missed. You get a report by department, and the results guide the next quarterly training session.

Do you need access to our premises for vulnerability scanning?

No. External scans run over the internet, and internal scans use a small device or agent your IT contact installs. We only scan after you sign an authorization and we agree the scope in writing.

Can your reports help with ECCB or FSRA expectations?

Our gap analysis, written policies, training records and scan reports give your board and regulators evidence of how you manage technology risk. We don't certify compliance in Saint Lucia; our job is to help you put the controls and documentation in place before any review.
