Cybersecurity training, AI and software services in The Bahamas

Syxel Technologies delivers security awareness training, phishing simulations, vulnerability scanning, cybersecurity gap analysis, AI consulting and software development to businesses in The Bahamas. We work remotely from Spanish Town, Jamaica, sharing Nassau's clock for part of the year and one hour behind it during Bahamian daylight saving time. Our services fit the way Bahamian organizations operate: hotels and resorts handling guest data, banks, insurers and service providers answering to their regulators, and teams spread across New Providence, Grand Bahama and the Family Islands.

Tourism, finance and the security risks they carry

Tourism is the largest part of the Bahamian economy, and financial services is the second. Resorts, hotels, tour operators, cruise-related businesses and restaurants process card payments, passport details and booking data every day, often through several connected systems and seasonal staff who need quick, practical security guidance. On the financial side, banks, trust companies, insurers, investment funds, financial and corporate service providers and a growing digital asset sector all hold sensitive client information.

Distance adds another layer. Many organizations run offices or sites on more than one island, which means remote access, cloud services and email carry much of the daily work. Those are exactly the routes that phishing, credential theft and ransomware use.

Regulators and the national cyber framework

Several regulators set expectations. The Central Bank of The Bahamas has issued technology risk management guidelines for its licensees. The Securities Commission of The Bahamas administers laws including the Investment Funds Act, 2019, the Financial and Corporate Service Providers Act, 2020 and the Digital Assets and Registered Exchanges Act, 2024. The Insurance Commission of The Bahamas has issued Cybersecurity Risk Management Guidelines that call for mandatory annual staff training, regular phishing simulations or awareness campaigns, annual penetration testing of internet-facing systems, and notice to the Commission within 72 hours of a significant cyber incident.

Nationally, the government launched CIRT-BS, the National Computer Incident Response Team, in December 2023, and a National Cybersecurity Strategy in December 2024. CIRT-BS is the national focal point for cyber incident response. Our work complements that by helping individual businesses strengthen their own defenses.

Security awareness training and phishing simulations in The Bahamas

Front desk agents, reservations teams, accounts payable clerks and private bankers are all targeted by attackers, but with different lures. A hotel might see fake booking platform messages and bogus guest complaints carrying malware, while a trust company sees forged client instructions. Our security awareness training for Bahamian organizations is delivered live online each quarter, with content adjusted for each group so people learn to spot the scams aimed at their own role. That rhythm also suits businesses with seasonal hiring, since new staff join the next session rather than waiting a year.

Our phishing simulations put that training to the test. We send controlled, realistic emails to your staff, track who clicks and who reports, and turn the results into the focus of the next session. For insurers and intermediaries, the Insurance Commission's guidelines specifically mention mandatory staff training and regular phishing simulations or awareness campaigns, and our records help show that the program is running. See the details on our security awareness training page.

  • Quarterly live online sessions, with role-specific content for hospitality and finance teams
  • Phishing simulations based on booking, payment and client instruction scams
  • Easy onboarding for seasonal and new staff
  • Per-department results on clicks and reports
  • Training records to support regulator and board reporting

Vulnerability scanning for businesses in The Bahamas

A resort's booking engine, guest Wi-Fi, payment systems and staff email sit alongside one another, and a weakness in one can open a path to the rest. A bank or insurer has its own mix of online banking portals, broker access and remote connections. Our vulnerability scanning service examines these systems from two angles. External scans reach your internet-facing assets, such as websites, portals, mail servers and VPN gateways, from outside your network. Internal scans use a small device or software agent your IT team installs at each site, so we can review systems on New Providence, Grand Bahama or a Family Island property without travel.

Before anything is scanned, you sign a written authorization and we agree the scope, schedule and points of contact. Your report ranks each vulnerability by risk and gives clear remediation steps, and we rescan once fixes are in. Scanning is a good regular check between deeper tests, and for insurers it sits alongside the annual penetration testing the Insurance Commission's guidelines expect. Learn more about penetration testing for internet-facing systems.

  • External scans of booking engines, portals, email and VPN gateways
  • Internal scans at multiple island sites through installed devices or agents
  • Written authorization, scope and schedule agreed in advance
  • Risk-ranked findings with clear fixes
  • Rescan after remediation to confirm results

Security gap analysis and policy writing for Bahamian organizations

Whether you answer to the Central Bank, the Securities Commission or the Insurance Commission, or simply want to satisfy a corporate client's security questionnaire, you need to know where your controls fall short. A cybersecurity gap analysis compares your current practices with NIST CSF, ISO 27001 or CIS Controls and shows what to fix first.

We carry out the assessment remotely. Over a series of video interviews we speak with leadership, IT, compliance and the managers who run key processes, then review your existing policies, procedures and evidence. You get a written report with each gap explained, a priority rating and a phased plan that fits your budget cycle. Where documents are missing, we write them: acceptable use, password, incident response and data protection policies that reflect Bahamian law and how your teams really work. An incident response policy matters most for regulated firms with short notification windows. Request a security gap analysis or start with our free acceptable use policy template.

AI consulting and staff AI training in The Bahamas

Bahamian hotels are using AI to answer guest questions and draft marketing, while financial firms see it as a way to speed up research, reporting and document review. Each use raises the same question: what happens to the data? Our AI consulting for organizations in The Bahamas begins with an AI readiness assessment that maps your processes, data and existing controls, and identifies where AI would genuinely save time.

We then train your people in live online workshops on prompting, fact-checking AI output and keeping guest and client data out of tools that are not approved. We draft an AI usage policy and governance framework that names approved tools, sets rules for personal and confidential data under Bahamian data protection law, and assigns who approves new uses. When you are ready to deploy, our AI implementation work covers chatbots for guest or customer questions, internal knowledge assistants and automated reporting, all tested before go-live. Visit our AI services page or take the AI readiness quiz.

Software development company for businesses in The Bahamas

Syxel Core builds custom software for Bahamian businesses that need tools shaped around their own operations. A tour or excursion operator might need a booking and dispatch app that works across islands; a hotel group might want a dashboard combining occupancy, revenue and maintenance data; a financial or corporate service provider might need a client portal for onboarding documents and secure messaging. We also build business automation that links accounting, CRM and email so staff stop copying data by hand.

We manage projects remotely with scheduled video meetings, shared test environments and staged releases, so you can try each piece before the next is built. During Bahamian standard time we keep the same hours, and during daylight saving time we are one hour behind, which still leaves most of the working day shared. Security and privacy are planned from the start, with access controls, encryption and audit logs built into the design. Support continues after launch. See our software development work, or outline your idea using the software project brief template.

  • Client portals for financial and corporate service providers

Data protection law in The Bahamas

The operative law today is the Data Protection (Privacy of Personal Information) Act, 2003, enforced by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner. The office investigates complaints, can issue enforcement notices, and expects organizations to keep personal data secure and to limit how long they hold it.

In December 2025 Parliament passed the Data Protection Act, 2025, which will repeal and replace the 2003 Act once it is brought into force. Its provisions take effect on dates the Minister appoints, and as of our latest check it was still listed as not yet in force. As debated in Parliament, the new framework includes registration of data controllers and processors with the Commissioner's office and a transition period before full enforcement. Check the Commissioner's office for the current position.

Please confirm how the law applies to your organization with Bahamian legal counsel. Our role is the technical and organizational security work, such as controls, policies and staff training, that supports compliance under either Act.

How we work with clients in The Bahamas

Syxel Technologies serves Bahamian clients remotely from our only office, in Spanish Town, Jamaica. We have no office or staff in The Bahamas. Jamaica stays on UTC-5 all year, while The Bahamas observes daylight saving time from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November. In winter our clocks match; in summer Nassau is one hour ahead, so our 9am to 5pm day runs from 10am to 6pm Bahamian time.

Training, interviews and project meetings take place over video, scans run remotely or through agents installed at each site, and files move through secure shared folders. On-site visits can be arranged when a project calls for one. To start a conversation, write to [email protected] or send a note through the form below.

Questions from The Bahamas businesses

Do you work with companies in The Bahamas remotely?

Yes. We deliver all five services remotely from Spanish Town, Jamaica, using video calls, live online training and remote scanning. We have no office in The Bahamas, and on-site visits are available by arrangement.

Which data protection law applies to our business in The Bahamas?

The Data Protection (Privacy of Personal Information) Act, 2003 is currently the operative law, overseen by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner. The Data Protection Act, 2025 has been passed and will replace it once brought into force. Confirm the details with Bahamian counsel; we provide the security controls, policies and training that support compliance.

What is the time difference between The Bahamas and Jamaica?

From early November to early March there is no difference, because both countries are on UTC-5. During Bahamian daylight saving time, from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, The Bahamas is one hour ahead of Jamaica. We schedule sessions with that shift in mind.

Can you train staff at several islands at once?

Yes. Because sessions are live and online, staff in Nassau, Freeport and Family Island locations can join the same session. We can also run separate sessions for different shifts or departments.

How do phishing simulations work for our staff?

We plan the scenarios, timing and audience with you first, and your IT team allowlists our sending servers. Staff then receive realistic test emails; anyone who clicks sees a short explanation of the warning signs. You receive results by department, which shape the next quarterly session.

Can you come on site in The Bahamas?

Most work runs remotely, including internal scanning through a device or agent your team installs. If you want an in-person workshop or hands-on time with your IT staff, we can arrange a visit in advance.
